Sacraments are considered major moments in your faith. They are Christian rites that have been entrusted to the church and passed down from generation to generation. These Sacraments come from Jesus himself, and it is our honor to help you participate in them as well at St. Mary Parish.
St. Mary Parish has been a local Akron parish since 1916, and we're focused on serving our congregation and our community in the name of Jesus. Same-day support is available if you need us. For other information on the Sacraments and how we can help, call the parish offices.
Para cualquier otro sacramento, por favor communicarse al teléfono.
Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is a sacred moment for the individual, their family, and our parish community. In the Diocese of Cleveland, parents must attend a pre-baptismal conference on the importance and responsibilities of being Catholic parents. For your convenience, parents may attend a conference at any parish. It is strongly recommended that the godparents likewise attend. Visit the St. Bernard Parish website to learn more.
First Holy Communion
Preparation to receive the Lord in the Eucharist is conducted through our school programs for children who are at least seven years of age. Adults can learn more about this Sacrament through the RCIA program. The Eucharist is celebrated at every Mass and is the "source and summit" of the Church. It is the very presence of Christ in our midst.
Confirmation
Catholics who are 13 years or older and seeking to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church can receive this Sacrament, which is celebrated and administered by a Bishop at our parish or one of our cluster parishes. Visit the St. Bernard Parish website for more information on this Sacrament.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
Are you considering becoming part of the Roman Catholic Church? Are you interested in receiving the Sacraments? Do you have questions about what Catholics believe? RCIA is the process of bringing adults into the Catholic Church. Parishioners and fellow Catholics, now is the time to invite your friends and family to join you in the faith! Inquiries may be made to the parish offices or by calling Jim Griggy at (330) 773-1248.
Penance and Confession
Jesus breathed on the apostles and sent them out to forgive or retain sins. Those seeking the forgiveness of God and healing in their lives can find grace and peace in this Sacrament. You can make an appointment by calling the parish office.
Marriage
Congratulations on your engagement! If you want to talk about getting married at our parish, please call our office today. We'll be happy to tell you about what to expect when you celebrate this Sacrament with us.
Holy Orders
Is God calling you to serve the Church as a priest or deacon? There are a number of people who can help you discern where God is calling you to be fulfilled in life. You may also feel called toward a life dedicated to the Lord in prayer and service. If you are interested in more information on being a nun, religious sister, or religious brother, please contact the parish office to discuss how we can support you!
Anointing of the Sick (Viaticum)
When a parishioner is confined because of illness, advanced age, or infirmity, please call the parish office to inform us so that we may arrange for Holy Communion to be brought to them and we can pray for them. When someone is seriously ill, not necessarily in danger of death, the healing presence of the Lord should be requested in the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office to arrange a time for a priest to visit. This Sacrament is also celebrated communally at Mass at specified times during the year.
